DAYTONA SPEED SENSOR, PROXIMITY TYPE, NON-CONTACT, 87038
The DAYTONA proximity speed sensor is a universal, non-contact type speed sensor (3-wire type) designed for use on a wide range of 12v motorcycles. This sensor facilitates quick and efficient installation in a discreet manner. The process involves mounting the sensor, wiring it, and setting the sensor gap. A basic bracket and ties are included for immediate installation, though a custom bracket can be fabricated to secure the sensor as preferred. The sensor can detect brake rotor bolts or rear sprocket bolts without requiring a magnet.
This type of sensor is typically employed when a direct-fit speed pulse converter is not available for the specific model, or in scenarios where a custom build omits the factory Speedo drive unit (such as a Speedo drive at the wheel). Once wired, the sensor is self-powered and detects a ferrous (metal) target, with brake rotor bolts or rear sprocket bolts being ideal targets.
The wire length is 2000 mm, providing sufficient length for front or rear installation in most cases. The speed sensor is compatible with all VELONA and DAYTONA gauges. It is confirmed for use on SR400/500, SR400FI, early Triumph air cooled models such as the Bonneville/Thruxton, Honda CB range, and many other models.
The motorcycle must utilize a 12v power source (battery), as electrical speed sensors are generally incompatible with battery-less systems (capacitor-type ignitions).
TIP FOR SR400FI 2010-2019
This speed sensor can operate a primary electrical speedometer, a secondary electrical gauge or be used with a mechanical gauge when the ECU requires a speed signal. For example, it is an ideal replacement for the factory-installed speed sensor of the late model SR400FI (which has a sensor hidden in the mechanical gauge set). Use to feed the Speedometer and ECU (when installing an electrical gauge) or just feed the ECU (when fitting a mechanical gauge).
NOTES:
1. The sensors are a three-wire type & are not compatible with the two-wire feeds used on other makes and brands of gauges.
2. Wiring processing is required for installation (simple wiring).
3. The main body is made of resin, be careful not to overtighten the bolts to avoid damage.
4. It does not react to aluminum, titanium, etc.
