SR400/500 (97~08) CHROMED GENUINE REPLACEMENT HEAD PIPE, 3HT-7899. Made in Japan

If you are looking to replace the old head pipe on your SR400, (97~08 model SR400) or simply want a chromed factory type replacement head pipe to match with the DAYTONA slip on mufflers (Megaphone and Cabton styles), then this head pipe is a great option. It is made for the 1997-2008 models (which uses longer exhaust studs than earlier models). So, the flange plate position differs slightly to older 78~mid 90's model pipes, *meaning longer studs are best used - (use #90116-08617 studs or equivalent).

As well as being great match with the Daytona chromed slip-on mufflers we offer, you can of course also install it with the factory original Yamaha silencers (and many other suitable silencers). When used with the Daytona mufflers, it keeps the entire system matching in chrome and the joint size matches perfectly just like OEM. Also, the JMCA certification on DAYTONA mufflers was done with this head pipe, and like the Daytona mufflers, this pipe is made in Japan.

FAQ:
- 1Q. Can this pipe be used on older model SR400/500's?
- 1A: Yes, it can be used, *however, as the flange plate position has changed and late model bikes use longer studs, so you need to renew the studs on early models with the late model length studs. Due to the age of the SR's now, your bike may have had the longer studs fitted at some stage if repaired, which is quite common. However, if they are the older version (short type), then you should consider replacing them. *Keep in mind if you attempt fit up with short studs, you may thread your existing short studs & nuts or damage the exhaust flange plate.

-2Q: Is this a double wall type head pipe?
-2A: Yes, this is a layered type of pipe. In other words, the inner pipe is a smaller diameter than the outer skin. This is done so the outer skin doesn't heat up excessively, which aids in maintaining the shiny chrome. If you have a heavily worked engine, then maybe see our stainless pipes with larger flow. But if looking for performance equivalent to OEM or want to match well with the Daytona mufflers, this pipe is well suited!

-3Q: Does this pipe have the indent / twist near the flange (on the inner side of the pipe?)
-3A: Yes, this is a normal part of the SR pipe manufacturing. See notes below.

Attention:
- Genuine head pipes have a deliberate indent pressed on the upper inner side of the pipe (where the frame cut out is positioned). This indent and the cut out on the frame are often overlooked by owners if they are not familiar with genuine type head pipes or have simply never removed a head pipe before. While the pipe is fitted, the deliberate indent is not actually noticeable (hence why it is often overlooked on an old bike). To be clear, the indent is NOT a fault. It is how all factory pipes are made as far as we know, and always have been. Some say it's for clearance (tolerance differences) as these pipes are hand made one by one, some say it's to access the tube nuts during periodical servicing. Call it part of the SR heritage if you like...., either way, the indent with a twist is an iconic SR feature that SR maniacs look for to verify the pipe is a genuine article and SR aficionados expect!
