If you remove the genuine air cleaner box, the blow-by gas from the crankcase will be exposed when the connection to the air box is lost. By attaching a breather filter, it prevents the entry of debris into the crankcase and filters out the blow by gas. This filter is sold for the SR400/500 and XT/TT500 as well as universal use on all bikes that require a 19mm clamp on.
